For centuries, the authentic delicacies of Sintra have been delighting palates, and among them, the Queijadas da Sapa stand out. Founded by Maria Sapa in 1756, this traditional pastry shop has been perfecting its craft in Ranholas and later in Volta do Duche. With a daily production of twenty dozen, the queijadas quickly gained popularity among the nobles heading to Sintra, who cherished them for their exceptional quality and flavor. Although the arrival of the steam train in Estefânia in 1887 changed the landscape, the Queijadas da Sapa persevered, passing down their secrets through generations and maintaining the daily tradition of crafting the authentic delicacies of Sintra that we know and love today.
